THE AFRICAN MOSQUITO

I will in no way discount

The sting of an angry bee

But an African mosquito’s dismount

I dread to feel and see

In swamps and shallow waters

In river edges and marshes

In other stagnant waters

Her female eggs it hatches

It will gently slide

To your sleeping ear

And humming to your ear slide

To say I am here

What a biting protocol

Observed without a ploy

We cannot issue a recall

As and when they deploy

Stiff fevers, red bumpy skins

To suck your blood, they drill

And when malaria kicks in

You burn as though on a grill

I speak to lift alertness

Though much has been handed

To rid us of this sadness

Yet more can still be added
