The metro was packed
And space we lacked
In a Russian rush hour
Destined for a school hour
Tight on rails all clinging
Most passengers standing
A few of us well seated
My black butt also seated
With my self-laid out
And my feet stretched out
My thoughts elated
And my eyes bewildered
Though it all was tight
No room in sight
Empty to my left the seat
Same on my right the seat
Then it dawned on me
All scared to sit next to me
Me the biting monkey
Or me a dumb donkey
Call it racism
Or stupidism
Or scaredism
Or whichever ism
More space for me
So I can but be me
Who I was made to be
A black shark in a White sea.
