A Wall Crumbles

The Berlin Wall

My teary eyes recall

The remnants of war

That once a family tore

Cold war tensions

Rising with contention

A guarded concrete barrier

Looking out from our carrier

Staring from our train

Rolling past this terrain

Like walking through a graveyard

Indeed, it was a graveyard

On the east or west no gain

Reminding us all the pain

That caused this sorry eyesore

We all with cause abhor

Mr. Gorbachev, “Tear down this wall”

That this much hate should fall

A Russian, an American hero

They sought a better tomorrow

On this trip my eyes elated

Our hearts this time decorated

The wall finally came down

Hand in hand we’ll walk across to town
